The Merge Festival Village is rolling in to the Civic Square Precinct, Booragoon on Saturday November 18th in what is shaping up to be the biggest event the City has undertaken for more than a decade! Complete with pop-up venues, non-stop entertainment, food trucks galore, boutique market stalls, amazing authors, fantastic activities for all ages, free dance lessons and so much more!
There is even a ‘satellite’ festival zone at Wireless Hill which provides an option away from the hustle and bustle for those who might enjoy a quieter less crowed experience.
Merge Festival heralds an ending and a beginning. An ending to the facilities and spaces as we know them as the AMP/Garden City redevelopment necessitates the demolition of the amphitheatre, the library and surrounds in early to mid 2018. And a beginning as we set about on the path to plan and develop the new City of Melville Cultural Centre, a new civic heart.
It’s a festival like no other. It seeks to unpack all that the new Cultural Centre will encompass – an A-Class Gallery, a local studies collection, a City library, a performing art centre, a new City piazza (town square) and so much more. It’s part street festival, part writers festival and part arts festival.
With non-stop performance across two stages plus a DJ pitch! From ukuleles to Japanese Okinawan folk songs. Indian Dhol drummers, Aboriginal dancers and buskers galore! See swing dancers and listen to Libby Hammer as the library turns its lights down low and opens the UpLate jazz bar!
Meet a mermaid and a sailor, some nosey neighbours & a tea lady or two. Take a selfie with the Famous Sharron and be charmed by Magnus Danger Magnus.
Take a seat in our ‘Ideas Lab’ or book your spot in our ‘On the Couch’ series to hear your favourite writers and idea makers in conversation. There’s live storytelling in our alfresco library and a poetry ‘grand’ slam.
See amazing art installations from a swarm of suspended Swan River jellyfish made by local kids, to the wool covered ‘Homeless’ by Kerrie Argent, a magical overhead misting machine, and Tom Muller’s duo of structures.
Be the first to paint a collective digital canvas and add to a strange cardboard garden. Write a postcard to an old friend, build a nature cubby, or learn to weave a Noongar bush basket.
