Disability Awareness Week
Disability Awareness Week 2017 will run from 3 to 9 December, coinciding with the United Nations sanctioned International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) held each year on 3 December.
Events and activities will be held all week around Western Australia to celebrate people with disability and raise awareness about the importance of access and inclusion in our society.
The Department of Communities, Disability Services have grants now available to support community events and activities to be held during Disability Awareness Week 2017.
Non-government, non-profit organisations, community groups and local governments can apply for grants of up to $1,000 to hold community events and activities that support and promote the importance of access and inclusion across Western Australia.
You might want to arrange a movie screening, a morning tea, an art show or maybe a sporting event. Whatever you decide to do, you are encouraged to include people with disability in the organising of events or activities as well as develop partnerships with like-minded organisations or community groups.
Applications close at 5.00pm on Wednesday 1 November 2017. The application form and guidelines are now available:
