Have your say on the Department of Communities Carers Recognition Act

Department of Communities are currently inviting Carers, and those who work with carers, to have their say on the review of the Carers Recognition Act 2004.

The Act was introduced on 28 October 2004 to provide for the recognition of carers. The purpose of the Act is to:

  • enact a Carers Charter to recognise the role of carers in the community and provide a mechanism for involving carers in the provision and delivery of services that affect carers and their role
  • ensure all State Government funded and administered health and disability services comply with the Act and Charter
  • establish the Carers Advisory Council to report on compliance with the Act and provide advice to the Minister on issues relevant to carers.
